Our Socket weld flange dimensions adhere to ASME B16.5 standards, which encompass sizes ranging from NPS ½" to 24".

At Shaanxi Peter International Trade Co., Ltd., we prioritize customer satisfaction and strive to provide exceptional products and services. Our dedicated team is committed to meeting the diverse needs of our clients by offering reliable and durable socket weld flanges that consistently meet industry standards.

Description of ASME B16.5 Socket Weld Flanges:

Socket weld flanges are commonly used for smaller-sized high-pressure pipes and find extensive application in high-pressure systems such as hydraulic equipment and steam lines. These flanges have a counter-bored bore that accommodates the pipe, providing a smooth bore for improved fluid or gas flow. They are connected to the pipe by inserting the pipe into the socket end and then applying a fillet weld around the flange's hub.

At our manufacturing facility, we produce Raised Face socket weld flanges and Flat Face Socket weld Flanges to cater to companies from various industries, including power generation, petrochemical plants, pharmaceutical plants, shipbuilding, oil refineries, wastewater treatment plants, paper mills, and turnkey projects.

To ensure proper installation, a 1/16" (2.0 mm) gap should be maintained between the pipe end and the bottom of the flange socket to account for differential thermal expansion. This prevents weld cracking that may occur due to temperature differences. In high-stress situations, an internal weld can be added for additional strength. The internal weld is then ground smooth to minimize turbulence and flow restriction.

Socket weld flanges conforming to ASME B16.5 standards are permitted under the B31 series of Pressure Piping Codes and ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes. Although these flanges are available in sizes up to 3", they are most commonly used in sizes of 2" and smaller, making them suitable for small diameter high-pressure piping systems. However, it's important to note that socket welding is susceptible to crevice corrosion. Corrosive solutions from the process fluid can accumulate in the gaps and crevices between the pipe's outer surface and the socket surface of the flange, leading to potential crevice corrosion. Therefore, socket weld flanges are typically avoided in corrosive applications.

Advantages of ASME B16.5 Carbon Steel Socket Weld Flanges:

When compared to other materials, carbon steel socket weld flanges offer several advantages in various applications:

Strength and Durability: Carbon steel is known for its high strength and durability, making it suitable for demanding industrial applications. Carbon steel socket weld flanges can withstand high-pressure and high-temperature conditions without compromising their structural integrity.

Cost-Effectiveness: Carbon steel is relatively more affordable compared to other materials such as stainless steel or alloy steel. This cost advantage makes carbon steel socket weld flanges a popular choice, especially in applications where corrosion resistance or specialized material properties are not critical requirements.

Wide Availability: Carbon steel is readily available and can be sourced from multiple suppliers. Its wide availability ensures that carbon steel socket weld flanges can be easily procured and integrated into various piping systems.

Compatibility: Carbon steel socket weld flanges are compatible with a wide range of piping materials, including carbon steel pipes and fittings. This compatibility allows for easy integration and ensures a reliable connection between different components in the system.

Good Weldability: Carbon steel has excellent weldability, meaning it can be easily welded using various welding techniques. Socket welding, in particular, is a straightforward process for joining carbon steel socket weld flanges to pipes or fittings. The good weldability of carbon steel reduces the complexity and cost of installation.

High Temperature Resistance: Carbon steel has good resistance to high temperatures, making it suitable for applications involving hot fluids or environments. Socket weld flanges made of carbon steel can withstand elevated temperatures without losing their structural integrity or mechanical properties.

Wide Range of Sizes: Carbon steel socket weld flanges are available in a wide range of sizes to accommodate different pipe diameters and system requirements. This versatility allows for flexibility in designing and constructing piping systems of varying scales.

Corrosion Resistance: Although carbon steel is not as corrosion-resistant as stainless steel or other alloy steels, it can still provide adequate resistance to many common corrosive environments. Proper coating or lining can further enhance the corrosion resistance of carbon steel socket weld flanges, making them suitable for a wide range of applications.
