Description of AWWA C207 Steel Hub Flanges:
AWWA C207 is a standard in the United States of America that defines the requirements for steel pipe flanges used in waterworks service. AWWA stands for "American Water Works Association".
AWWA C207 provides specifications for steel hub flanges, which are available in Class D and Class E. Unlike steel ring flanges, steel hub flanges have an extended hub that reinforces the flange and facilitates welding. For AWWA C207 Class D steel hub flanges, the working pressure limit at water service temperature is 175 psi for sizes ranging from 4″ to 12″ and 150 psi for sizes larger than 12″. The maximum allowable pressure, whether it be a test or transient pressure, can be as high as 260 psi for Class D steel hub flanges in sizes from 4″ to 12″ and up to 225 psi for Class D steel hub flanges larger than 12″. The outside diameter and drilling pattern of these flanges are consistent with those of Class 125 cast-iron flanges (ASME B16.1), and for sizes 24″ and smaller, they also match the steel flange standard of ASME B16.5 Class 150.
According to the AWWA C207 standard, the working pressure limit for Class E steel hub flanges at water service temperature is 275 psi, and the maximum pressure (test or transient) allowed can be up to 412.5 psi. These steel hub flanges are typical slip-on flanges. If requested by the purchaser, welding neck flanges can be designed and manufactured based on this standard. AWWA C207 Class E flanges have the same diameter and drilling pattern as ASME B16.1 Class 125 cast-iron flanges. In sizes 24" and smaller, they also conform to the ASME B16.5 Class 150 standard for steel flanges.
